Historical Background
Lugazi Town Council had a humble beginning with a few shops opened round about 1924 to serve the labourers and workers who were employed in the sugarcane plantation and the factory that had been started by the late Nanji Khalidas Mehta. Over the years with industrial growth it became a town council in 1978.
Location
Lugazi Town Council is 45 km from Kampala on the road to Jinja. Lugazi is at junction leading to the landing sites and Buvuma fishing Islands on Lake Victoria. It is also at the peripheral of Mabira forest, the largest equatorial forest in Uganda with camping sites and a few kilometers away from the splendid Sezibwa falls.
Relief and Climate
Our climate is highly influenced by our proximity to Lake Victoria and the Mabira equatorial rain forest not to mention the closeness to the Equator.
Relief - the vegetation is savannah forest mosaic and medium moist combretum savannah. The landscape and soil is more of Buganda catena. Lugazi Town Council lies on a high plain of an average 3,950 ft above sea level.
Climate - the mean annual rainfall is 1640mm with peaks in March to June and September to November. Temperature range between 16°C - 27°C daily. Relative humidity is 72%.
Area and Population
Lugazi Town Council covers an area of 19.2km (1920.6Hq). According to the 2002 census, the population of Lugazi Town Council is a total of 31,026 made up of 15,098 males (48.66%) and 15,928 females (51.34%). The population growth is estimated at 2.8% per annum. The numbers of households were 7,185.

Ethnicity
Lugazi Town Council is ethnically rich with a wide base of both cultural and traditional values, which can be enhanced for the benefit of our society. Every cultural group in Uganda is represented including some of those from Rwanda, Congo, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, India e.t.c. This cultural and traditional matrix is a social intergration that brings pride and creativity to our people. This ethnicity mix is the result of people migration from different places to Lugazi to get employment mainly in the plantation and factories.
Religion
Lugazi Town Council is endowed with most of the religion denominations commonly found in Uganda like the Catholics, Anglican, Pentacostal (Balokole), Seventh Day Adventists, Moslems and Hindus. There is indeed freedom of worship.
